ⵣⴰⵔⴰⴱⵉⴰ

About ZARABIA

The Name

The word Zarabia (ⵣⴰⵔⴰⴱⵉⴰ) comes from the Moroccan word for rug. It refers to traditional handwoven carpets rooted in North African heritage and weaving traditions. For us, the name carries the weight of craft, identity, and the slow, deliberate act of making.

Our Story

ZARABIA was born from a simple idea: to bring Amazigh weaving into dialogue with contemporary design. Each rug we make is a bridge between generations of artisan knowledge and the present moment.

We work with three Amazigh women, Fatima, Rehana, and Zahra, who weave every piece by hand using silk and wool. No two rugs are alike. Each one takes over three months to complete and carries the marks of the hands that made it.

We believe a rug is not just a carpet. It is a story, an identity, and a piece of art. Our slogan reflects that: A rug that is not just a carpet, but a story, an identity, and a piece of art.

The Process

Every ZARABIA rug starts with a digital design phase. We combine traditional Amazigh motifs with modern composition so that each piece feels both rooted and new.

Once the design is set, the weaving begins. Our artisans work on looms using techniques passed down through their families. The process is slow and physical. One rug can take more than three months from start to finish.

We do not rush. We believe that the time invested is visible in the result: in the density of the weave, the clarity of the pattern, and the durability of the piece.

Materials

We use only silk and wool. These natural fibres age beautifully and respond to light and use in a way that synthetic materials cannot. Silk brings sheen and subtle variation; wool brings warmth and resilience. Together they create a rug that can last for decades when cared for properly.

The Artisans

Behind every ZARABIA rug are three Amazigh master weavers. They bring a lifetime of skill and cultural knowledge to each piece.

We recommend gentle vacuuming without a beater bar, avoiding direct sunlight for long periods, and professional cleaning when needed. Silk and wool are durable when cared for properly. We send care guidelines with each order.
